What
is Reiki and how can it help?
The
practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao
Usui early in the 20th century.
The Japanese word Reiki means “Universal Life Energy”. Eastern
medicine has always recognized and worked with this energy, which flows
through all living things and is vital to well-being.
Reiki is a natural healing energy activated by intention. It works on
every level, not just the physical and promotes the body’s regenerative
self-healing ability. The purpose of Reiki is to heal holistically,
rather than treat any specific disorders, and to restore balance.
Healing through human touch is the oldest, simplest and most natural
of all therapies. The act of laying on of hands to comfort and heal
conveys warmth, caring and affection, similar to the basic instincts
of a parent and child.
Well-being is a question of our bodies being in balance. If our natural
equilibrium is upset, then our energy cannot flow freely and we may
become unwell.
Reiki benefits both the giver and receiver, it cannot be misused, nor
do any harm. Reiki supports our body’s natural healing process.
As a Reiki Practitioner and a member of the UK Reiki Federation, I work
with people to help restore balance and calm into their busy lives and
this complements my own holistic approach to life. Reiki is deeply relaxing
and has a profoundly calming effect that is particularly effective in
relieving stress.
